October 10, 2021: Invitation from "Friends of Japan", a delegation, visited Japan with President Gasparovic in 2012

2021/12/8
At the end of September, I received an invitation from members of the delegation, visited Japan with President Ivan Gasparovic in 2012 to meet in Modra near Bratislava.
Many may think: "A second meeting in such a short time?" It may seem that way, but this is how the relationship of close friends works in the Slovak style. It is a sign of a pro-Japanese family created by all members of this group, and I am looking forward to being a part of it.
The former president, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday, energetically enjoyed bowling and enjoyed a regional specialty, roast duck with sweet and sour red cabbage, with a glass of Modran wine in his hand. I figuratively "folds his hat" in front of the extraordinary perseverance and energy of a man who not only stood at the birth of an independent Slovakia, but served as President of the National Council for six years and then President of the Slovak Republic for ten years (until 2014). I realized that this energy of the former president is the source of the group's success. I would like to ask the members of the "Friends of Japan" group to further develop and strengthen cooperation with the embassy and to support the development of friendship between the Slovak Republic and Japan.
The town of Modra is a beautiful place in vineyards at the foot of the Little Carpathians, about 25 kilometers from Bratislava. It is one of the well-known areas of Slovak viticulture, also famous for the production of Modran ceramics, which boasts beautiful colors reminiscent of the Mediterranean Sea. The town where Ľudovít Štúr, who created Slovak grammar in the 19th century, spent his last years is definitely a good place for a weekend walk.
