October 28, 2021: International High-Level Conference on the Promotion of Human Rights and Democracy in the World under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic
2021/12/8
On October 28, I participated at an international high-level conference on the promotion of human rights and democracy in the world, which took place at the Ministry of Diplomacy in Bratislava.
Slovak diplomacy, led by the new government, which emerged from last year's parliamentary elections, is consolidating its foreign policy direction of strengthening relations with partners who share universal values such as democracy, respect for fundamental human rights and the rule of law. The fact that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs Ivan Korčok himself declares pro-EU and pro-NATO policy is also a manifestation of the fact.
Slovak diplomacy has never organized an international conference on human rights. This was designed to show at the domestic and international level that Slovakia is a country that promotes diplomacy with a high awareness of human rights issues. The UN Deputy Secretary-General for Human Rights, the EU Special Representative for Human Rights, as well as several human rights ambassadors from the European Union, spoke at the conference. Slovakia itself has also appointed an ambassador for human rights issues this summer. The conference was opened by the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, Mr. Eduard Heger with participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic Ivan Korčok and the Minister of Justice of the Slovak Republic Mária Kolíková.
In addition to the conference, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs will organize meetings with local authorities in various parts of the country on the European Union's "Future of Europe" project and explain the importance of Slovakia's membership in the UN. Although Slovakia is a small country with a population of 5.5 million, it is making various efforts to play a significant role in diplomacy.
