October 27, 2021: Visit to the Trnava Regional Chamber of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry
2021/12/8
Thanks to the invitation of the Trnava Regional Chamber of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, I had the opportunity to participate in a meeting with representatives of Slovak companies operating in the Trnava region and exchange views and experiences. I was invited to this working meeting last autumn, but due to the deteriorating epidemiological situation in connection with the spread of a new type of coronavirus, the meeting finally took place with a one-year delay.
At present, more than 60 Japanese companies are operating in Slovakia. (In our internal documents, we consider as Japanese companies all those in which Japanese capital is located.) Out of the eight Slovak self-governing regions, Japanese companies operate in all except of the Trnava Region. Perhaps as a result of this fact, I received such a zealous invitation to a meeting from representatives of the Trnava Regional Chamber of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Businessmen representing various industries met in the meeting room of the Trnava Regional Chamber. Beginning with representatives of SARIO (Slovak Agency for Investment and Trade Development), the meeting was attended by representatives of the pharmaceutical industry, manufacturers of training flight simulators, nuclear and decommissioning company, and representatives of spas and tourism. At the beginning, I acquainted those who were present with the situation regarding the operation of Japanese companies in Slovakia, and then it was time for questions and answers. Even during them, I felt great expectations towards the arrival of Japanese companies to the region. A major European car manufacturer has already established itself in the Trnava Self-governing region, built a huge production hall, so during the meeting I perceived the need for business people to develop cooperation with Japan in other areas, such as in the field of nuclear energy, tourism etc..
Unfortunately, the JETRO agency, which is the opposite of the SARIO agency, does not have a branch in Slovakia. Slovakia is covered by the JETRO agency in Vienna. My aim for the future is to help to create a link between the Vienna office of the JETRO agency and the Trnava Regional Chamber of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which could lead to the real arrival of Japanese company to this region.
After the meeting at the Trnava Regional Chamber of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry, my steps were directed to the Archbishop's Office. I received great honors, as I was able to meet the Archbishop of Trnava, Mons. Ján Orosch. In the 16th century, during the Turkish invasions, the seat of the Hungarian archbishop moved to Trnava. The expansion of church buildings - cathedrals and churches - dates from this period. At the same time, a university was founded in Trnava and the city developed culturally significantly to its present-day charming appearance. Thanks to the number of churches that stand here, Trnava is also called “the little Rome”. During a tour round the beautiful premises of the Archbishop's Palace, the history and grace of Trnava literally breathed on me.
At the end of my visit to Trnava, the Vice-Mayor of Trnava, Mr. Tibor Pekarčík, received me in his office.
