October 15, 2021: Visit to the State Opera in Banská Bystrica

I received an invitation to the premiere of a new production of the opera "Turandot" at the State Opera in Banská Bystrica.
The Banská Bystrica State Opera has visited Japan almost every year since 1999 and has performed approximately 200 non-commercial opera performances and concerts in various parts of the country, from Hokkaido to Okinawa. In 2018, they received the Award of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan for her activities. Last year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was not possible to perform any opera performances, but this season we can enjoy them again.
"Turandot" is a wonderful opera in which the music is complemented by an innovative scene and narrative costumes. The Director General of the State Opera, Mr. Rudolf Hromada, explained to me the history of their work in Japan before an extensive collection of records from the performances. He also mentioned that they received a number of requests from all over Japan to come and perform in the country again after the end of the pandemic. The Director General Hromada confirmed that, if the situation allows, they would like to comply with their wishes and tour Japan in the season 2022/23.
I hope that the Banská Bystrica State Opera, which has been supporting cultural exchanges between Slovakia and Japan for many years, will be able to resume its performances in Japan as soon as possible. I would like to support them as much as possible and continue to deepen our long-term cooperation. Opera Turandot is very popular within the Japanese, so I strongly recommended that they perform the new production in Japan.
