July 14, 2021: Ambassador Nakagawa's participation in the solemn oath of the Slovak Olympic and Paralympic Team for the Olympic and Paralympic Games and in Tokyo

2021/12/9
On July 14, I attended the solemn oath of the Slovak Olympic and Paralympic Team for the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo, which took place in the backyard of the Presidential Palace in Bratislava. Both, the Olympic team, led by the President of the Slovak Olympic and Sport Committee, Anton Siekel (44 athletes) and the Paralympic team, led by the President of the SPC, Ján Riapoš (27 sportsmen), presented the solemn oath to the hands of the President of the Slovak Republic, Zuzana Čaputová.

Making promises may vary from country to country, but I think that taking the promise of the national teams in front of the head of state is a kind of beautiful promise that athletes will not only fight for themselves, but also for their homeland. I truly think, the ceremony itself was very emotional.

Gymnast Barbora Mokošová made a promise on behalf of the Slovak Olympians and the shooter Radoslav Malenovský on behalf of the Paralympians. Barbora Mokošová also attended the lunch I hosted at my residence on June 29, 2021.
