October 1, 2020: Visit to Banská Bystrica
2021/12/9
On October 1, I visited Banská Bystrica. In the premises of the historic town hall, I met with its Mayor, Mr. Ján Nosko and the Director General of the SNP Museum, Mr. Stanislav Mičev. We talked about history, traditions and relations between Japan and the city of Banská Bystrica.
Subsequently, I attended the ceremony of planting sakura trees in the Museum of the Slovak National Uprising. On the occasion of the centenary of relations between Japan and the Slovak Republic, ten trees were planted in the museum premises as a part of the "Blooming Slovakia" campaign. The jubilee year is significantly affected by the pandemic of a new type of coronavirus. Nevertheless, the very first celebration since the beginning of the pandemic has been organized. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs Ivan Korčok, the Chairman of the Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region Ján Lunter, the Mayor of Banská Bystrica Ján Nosko, as well as representatives of the local universities and cultural institutions attended the ceremony under strict hygienic measures in accordance with the regulations of the Government of the Slovak Republic.
I also visited the SNP Museum and took a great interest in a tour of the museum and the new exhibition entitled “75. Anniversary of the SNP” with a lecture interpretation.
